Overview

Gender inequality will not be dismantled by the same epistemologies that produced it. Decades of investment in diversity and inclusion have generated policy documents, training days and awareness campaigns — yet the structural power dynamics that sustain gender inequality remain largely untouched. The frameworks most practitioners are working with were built elsewhere, for other contexts, by institutions that have never had to explain gender to Africa. Drawing on foundational African feminist and womanist thinkers — Oyèrónkẹ́ Oyěwùmí, Ifi Amadiume, Amina Mama, Sylvia Tamale, Sabelo Ndlovu-Gatsheni and Achille Mbembe — the Certificate in African Philosophy of Gender Equity: Decolonial Practice & Research Tools equips gender equity practitioners, policy professionals, NGO leaders and institutional reformers with the analytical tools to diagnose, challenge and dismantle structural inequality at its roots.

This is not a programme about learning that inequality exists. It is a programme about developing the professional capability to do something about it — auditing institutions for structural equity risks, conducting rigorous discourse analysis on policy and donor documents, designing context-sensitive interventions grounded in local realities rather than imported templates, building theories of change that measure meaningful transformation rather than superficial outputs, and leading in contested, politically complex and postcolonial environments where conventional DEI tools routinely fail. Eight weeks. Online. IoL Accredited. £780. Graduates leave as strategic reform leaders — not programme implementers.
