1.1 The School of Pan African Studies (‘the School’) is committed to delivering a high-quality academic experience that is both intellectually challenging and aligned with the geopolitical objectives of African development. The School’s mission is to “produce the intellectual and human capital that builds a better Africa.”1.2 This framework outlines how the School ensures its courses meet the Office for Students (OfS) conditions for Quality and Standards (B1-B5) and sector-recognised standards, and how the School’s academic standards are grounded in the values of Oneness, Integrity, and Critical Thinking.

 

2.1 All courses are designed to provide a decolonized curriculum that centers Africa as the primary ontological base, and are explicitly linked to the School’s pillars of Epistemic Justice and Challenging Global Inequality.2.2 To ensure academic rigour, every new course must:

 

• Be developed by subject matter experts, including world-leading intellectuals;
• Be reviewed by the Academic Board for coherence, currency, and challenge;
• Align with the UK Quality Code for Higher Education and relevant Subject Benchmark Statements, even while offering alternative, decolonial perspectives.2.3 The School ensures that all courses are effectively delivered, whether online or blended, using industry-aligned tools.

 

3.1 The School provides students with a high-quality learning environment, including:

• Access to specialized digital libraries and Pan-African research databases;
• Structured academic advising and mentorship from scholars and industry professionals;
• Support tailored to the needs of the Diaspora and students based on the African continent.

 

4.1 The School operates a robust assessment system to ensure that awards are credible and reflect student achievement accurately.4.2 Assessment principles:

 

• Validity and Reliability: Assessments are designed to measure the learning outcomes of the course.
• Academic Integrity: The School uses plagiarism detection software and clear guidelines on the ethical use of AI and research.
• Internal Moderation: All assessments are subject to internal moderation to ensure consistency across markers.
• External Examining: The School appoints independent External Examiners from other reputable higher education institutions to verify that standards are consistent with the UK higher education sector.

 

5.1 Every course undergoes an Annual Monitoring Review (AMR) which considers:

 

• Student feedback and satisfaction;
• Completion and progression rates (Condition B3);
• External Examiner reports;
• Industry relevance and impact on ‘brain gain’;
• Strategic impact metrics aligned to the School’s 2025-2035/2026-2036 timelines, including annual progress towards scaling student enrolment from 300 to 25,000 learners by 2036.5.2 A comprehensive Periodic Review occurs every five years, involving external experts to ensure the curriculum remains at the forefront of African Economic Thought, Politics, and Philosophy.

 

6.1 The Academic Board is the ultimate authority for academic quality and standards at the School.6.2 The Board of Governors provides oversight to ensure the School has the financial and physical capacity (Condition B7) to maintain these standards.

 

7.1 In compliance with OfS requirements, the School retains student assessment records and evidence of standards for a minimum of five years.
